GP rating Course divided into Deck rating and Engine rating and the third section is Saloon rating. It is introduced with new guidelines and concepts of ‘Saloon Rating’ were introduced by the Directorate of D.G Shipping.
Duties and Responsibilities of Saloon Rating Crew:-
· Saloon Department is responsible for creating maintaining the officer's rooms clean accommodation and living space.
· They are responsible for creating a clean and quality atmosphere on the ship
· Saloon department is responsible for providing tasty and healthy food for the crew, Officer as well as passengers.
· The Saloon officer duties have served the foods to Officers and crew.
· The Chief Cook is responsible for maintaining that all daily meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack times) are prepared in a clean environment, are nutritionally sound, and meet all seafarers' needs.
· Steward directs, instructs, and assigns personnel that organizes and serves food, clean and maintain officers' quarters and steward department areas, and receive, issue, and inventory stores.
· The chief steward also plans menus and keeps track of supply, overtime, and cost control.

Required Eligibility Criteria for Saloon Rating:-
Educational Qualification:
The student should pass
10th / S.S.C with a minimum 40% Exam course or its equivalent exam for any
recognized board. The minimum required percentage is not less than 40% in
English subjects either in 12th Exams.
Age Limit:
The age limit is between 17.5 to 25 years
Course Name: Certificate Course in Maritime Catering
Course Duration: 6 Months
Medical Standard:
Minimum Height: 157Cms
Minimum Weight: 48Kgs
It should be medically
fit including eyesight as prescribed by the merchant Shipping Rules 2000 as
amended.
